Ultimate Travelist #60: Jökulsàrlòn

Our journey continued on from Vatnajökull National Park along the coast to Jökulsàrlòn.

From the moment we pulled off the main road and drove the short distance to the carpark, our jaws dropped and the car slowed to a crawl. The beauty of this area was outstanding. The river that flowed out to the sea was dotted with icebergs of all shapes and sizes, and it made the most beautiful landscape.

As the weather was overcast, windy and raining, we tried to get a good park. So we could enjoy the view from the car, while we plucked up the courage to step out into the freezing cold. We took an umbrella to try help keep us dry, but it was quickly destroyed in the wind and we were soaked through.

Outside we took in the beauty and grabbed as many photos as we could before we were soaked through, and unable to withstand the bitting cold and winds. Back in the car slowly warmed up while soaking in the view.

When the time came that we had to make the trip back to our accommodation, we had to pull ourselves away. But we had to get back and rest up for another day of adventures, the next day.
