Ultimate Travelist #124: Bryggen part 1

One of my favourite getaways this year was a long weekend in Bergen, Norway. To make the most of the weekend we flew in Friday night and were up early the following morning to start our drive to Hardangerfjord.

The drive took us through beautiful countryside running alongside other fjords, waterfalls and mountains. As we made our way along Hardangerfjord we got a taste for life in this area, which quickly had us dreaming about being in the area over summer.

As we pulled into Oystese our excitement grew for our first activity of the day, a rib ride through the fjord. We had booked with Hardanger Adventures who offer a range of rib experiences ranging from 45-90min. We choose the 45min tour, which took us round the fjord and right up close to waterfalls. We had an amazing trip, but if you have the time I would recommend going for the longer so you can go right into the village that is only accessible by boat.

Once we were changed, we were back on the road to catch the ferry across the fjord and continue our journey to Bondhusdalen. This lovely walk was the highlight of the day for me. The walk  up to the beautiful glacier lake isn’t too long and easy enough to do with kids and pushchairs.  With stunning scenery along the way it was a great walk for everyone.

By the time we finished our picnic lunch at the glacier lake, the day was drawing to a close. So we headed back to Bergen and enjoyed a well deserved sleep.
